Message from the Ameer of YMOUK

Dear brothers,

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

I hope that this letter reaches you in the best of health and Iman.

Ramadan, the season of worship, mercy and forgiveness is a mighty gift for the wise and righteous. In our short lifetimes, Allah has thrown at us opportunities from every door. In a normal day a good deed is multiplied by ten, yet, our Lord has chosen to shower more of His limitless mercy presented to us Ramadan. Ramadan in which the gates of heaven are open and those of hell closed and the devils are chained. › Continue reading

Provisions of the Soul: Fasting

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Ramadan Resources | No Comments

Mustafa Mashoor

We have mentioned that worship like Salah, Sawm, Zakah and Hajj are very important and renewed sources for provision in our path. We tried clarifying that concerning prayer, and now we will do the same with Fasting and may Allah help us. Allah, Most High, says, {O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn)) self-restraint}. (Al-Baqarah: 183)

So, fasting is a shield, which protects those who are fasting from temptations. Fasting is different from any other worship that is related to Allah, the Most High. It was related that Abu Hurairah, (my Allah be pleased with him) said, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah, Most High, said, ‘Every deed of son of Adam is for him except Fasting, it is for Me and I give reward for it. Fasting is like a shield (from the Fire and from committing sins). If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarrelling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, I am fasting. By Him in Whose Hands my soul is! The smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is considered better to Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord. Then he will be pleased because of his fasting.”

A Simple Ramadan Program

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Ramadan Resources | No Comments

Shaykh ‘Abdullah Yusuf ‘Azzam

{”O you who believe! Fasting was prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become pious. Fast for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number should be made up from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, they have to feed a poor person. But, whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you knew.”}

[al-Baqarah; 183-184]

“It is, as the Lord of Glory Said, a fixed number of days. Rather, it is a fixed number of hours! The month of Ramadan is either 720 hours, or 696 hours, and every minute of it has a price and a value. The Salaf and the Companions - may Allah be Pleased with them - used to await these days of Ramadan from the year to year, as it has been reported in a narration that the Companions used to say, when Rajab had arrived: “O Allah, assist us in worshiping You in Rajab and Sha’ban, and allow us to witness Ramadan.”

Ramadan: Month of Walaa’ and Baraa’

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Ramadan Resources | No Comments

Abu Sabayaa

Ramadan is a month of many things for the Muslims: it is a month of mercy, forgiveness, blessing, worship, exertion, devotion, and discipline. In addition, it has historically been a month that revived the concept of wala’ and bara’ in the conscience of the believers in one way or another.

Firstly and most famously, the 17th of Ramadan 2 AH was the day of the first decisive battle between Islam and kufr: the Battle of Badr.

On the same day (17th) of Ramadan six years later, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) conquered Makkah along with 10,000 Muslim soldiers. That day, he entered the Ka’bah and personally smashed each of the 360 idols he found inside. Later that same Ramadan, he sent his Companions to destroy the other idols worshipped by the Arabs: Khalid bin al-Walid was sent to destroy al-’Uzza, ‘Amr bin al-’As to destroy Suwa’, and Sa’d bin Zayd to destroy Manat.

Ramadan in Captivity

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Ramadan Resources | No Comments

British Political Prisoner Babar Ahmad, MX5383

Allah (SWT) said in (2:185):

“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for people, clear proofs of guidance and a criterion (to judge between right and wrong).”

It was reported by Abu Said al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: “Whosoever fasts one day in the Path of Allah, a distance of seventy years journey will be placed between him and the Hell Fire.” (Sahih Muslim)

The Pious Predecessors would spend six months of every year preparing for Ramadan and the other six months asking Allah to accept the deeds that they did in Ramadan.

Preparation for the prisoners to receive Ramadan begins a couple of months before Ramadan, with brothers starting voluntary fasts once a week or so. Once Sha’baan begins, the frequency of these voluntary fasts increases to twice a week and more approaching the days just before Ramadan
